Four Avenues of Service - Community Service

Meals on Wheels:  The mission of Meals on Wheels of Central Virginia is "to provide balanced, nutritious and appealing meals to seniors, people with disabilities and disadvantaged populations.  We strive to improve the physical and mental health of those served by providing, either directly or through cooperation with other organizations, a range of goods and services that improve quality of life."

Members of the Innsbrook Rotary Club help Meals on Wheels fulfill their mission through delivery of meals every Tuesday and the first Friday of the month.  For more information on the Meals on Wheels program, visit http://www.mowdelivers.com.

The Read Center:  One evening each week, at least one club member volunteers at the computer lab at The Read Center ( located at the Maggie Walker Governor’s School in Richmond) which conducts classes and tutoring in adult literacy and GED preparation. Our volunteers provide  basic instructional assistance and encouragement to the students in their on line homework assignments, practice and testing involving reading and comprehension as well as basic computer skills.

Bingo at Morningside:  On the first Monday of every month, Innsbrook Rotarians and their families play Bingo with the residents of the Morningside Assisted Living Facility on Skipwith Road.  This serves as a great event for rotary members and their children, and residents of Morningside look forward to Bingo on Mondays.

Road Clean-Up:  Four times a year you will find members of the Innsbrook Rotary Club picking up trash and other items along Cox Road.  Innsbrook Rotary participates in the Henrico County Adopt-A-Road program through the adoption of Cox Road from Broad Street south.  For more information on the Henrico County Adopt-A-Street program, please visit http://www.co.henrico.va.us/utility/khbeautiful/bwc.html.

Blood Drives:  In partnership with the Virginia Blood Services, members of Innsbrook Rotary are regular blood donors.  Every unit of blood that is collected saves three lives, and so members of the Innsbrook Club and their families donate on a regular basis.  For more information on blood donation, please visit www.vablood.org.

Bright Beginnings:  YMCA Bright Beginnings is a community outreach program that provides thousands of disadvantaged children the fall clothes and school supplies needed to start the new school year with confidence and pride. YMCA volunteers and staff make a big celebration of this annual event. Children meet at the Y and sing songs on the bus ride over to a local Target where they meet their shopping buddy. The volunteer and child share a meal together and then shop for two fall outfits, underwear, socks, shoes and a warm fall coat. At the end of the trip, the child has a picture taken with their new YMCA Bright Beginnings friend and then boards the Y bus. The best surprise comes at the end of the trip when the children board the bus and find their very own large and sturdy backpack filled with school supplies.

Innsbrook Rotarians get involved by serving as volunteers on the shopping nights or by serving as a Backpack Buddy and filling a backpack of school supplies for a child.  For more information on the Bright Beginnings program visit http://www.ymcarichmond.org/Give_Time_Give_Money/volunteer_opportunities.asp?id=60.
